Lazy Saturday. . .

After such a busy weekend last weekend, it is nice ot have some down time.

First thing this morning mom and I headed to Calloway’s and. . .if I could actually count my gardening would be finished, but apparently I need 2 more impatients, then I will be finished. I’m excited that the little hydrangea that I planted toward the end of last summer already has 5 visible blossoms coming, but I wish that my giant hydrangea plant showed signs of blossoms. . .have you have any hydrangea advice please send it my way!

I made Cherry Dessert for tomorrow’s Easter dinner. . .its fast simple and a crowd pleaser so I thought it was the right way to go.

The day rounded out with a nice dinner with Jamie, we hadn’t hung out in a while and needed to catch up. We decided to go for dinner on the patio. . .which was a good idea until the storm that was supposed to arrive early tomorrow morning arrived 10 hours early, luckily it is a covered patio so we didn’t get too wet.

My Time in the Garden

I know I’m totally a slacker for not posting yesterday. . .but I had a work function and then karaoke. . .so when I got home at almost 2:00 blogging was the last thing on my mind. . .well, not true, I tried to think of something to blog real quick and my mind was blank. . .oh well?

Fingers crossed the last freeze has come and gone in Dallas, cause I went to Calloway’s today and went crazy. . .although I still have a bit of a gap in my garden, trying to figure out how to fill it. . .

I headed straight home from work and got busy putting those plants in the ground. I love spring and all the colorful flowers. I am repeating a lot of flowers from last year but added Gerber Daisies, just because I love them. Here’s a look at what I bought:

And here they are in the ground:

Tomorrow, mom and I are headed back to Calloway’s to finish our gardens. . .and then hopefully a relaxing Saturday.

Sorry to disappoint you but tonight. . .there will be no wine talk. Please don’t be too mad at me!

Rebekah Elliott is in town, her very sweet husband surprised her for her birthday and bought her a ticket to Dallas while he is in DC. . .very nice of him to not want to leave her in Hawaii without him (rough I know!).

Since the weather was SO nice today we decided to head to Houlihan’s for happy hour and sit on the patio. I really debated on whether or not to order a glass of wine so that I had something to talk about tonight. But, all the wines were at least $6 a glass and a flight was going to be $10. . .so I went the economical route:

Those big ol’ glasses were only $3.75 at happy hour. I never think of myself as a Long Island Ice Tea fan but these were actually pretty good! I got the Texas Tea (and so did Beth), and I recommend giving it a try. Most definitely if it is happy hour. . .what can beat $3.75? But back to wine next week, no worries!

Random Acts of Kindness

Not to get all deep and thought provoking, but I still find myself caught off guard by random acts of kindness. Today I was the recipient of a random act of kindness. I sort of instigated it but to me that still doesn’t belittle what this person did and I am truly grateful.

This got me thinking, when was the last time I showed someone else a random act of kindness? That’s my goal. . .I need to figure out what to do and whom to do it for. . .

That’s it, that’s my big thought for the day. . .hope you’ve been blessed by a random act of kindness. . .or better yet that you blessed someone else with a random act of kindness.

What I’m Reading, week 17

Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster is hilarious!

bitter-is-the-new-black-cover

Maybe it is our shared love of all things Kate Spade that draws me into this story or maybe it is the witty repartee style of the author. Whatever it is I am ready to read one of her other three books, and I hope they are as entertaining.

I definitely give this one two thumbs up or four stars. . .whichever acknowledgment will convince you to read this book. Don’t expect any earth shattering life lessons but do except a lot of laughs. But disclaimer, if you are one of the many that have been recently laid off I must warn you that this book is about Jenn’s struggle with unemployment just after 9/11.

I was happy to discover that Jenn Lancaster has a blog and it is quite entertaining, I love finding author’s blogs. Her’s is called Jennsylavnia.

Happy reading!

Fun, Full & Fast Weekend

This weekend was packed with so many fun things!

Friday night started it off with dinner for Matt’s birthday. Since the weather was nice he requested dinner at Campisi’s out on the patio. We had quite a good turn out and had a good time sitting around eating, drinking and laughing. Several hours into the celebration, the manager brought what has to be the biggest salad I have ever seen.

giant-salad

I thought they were being nice and just giving it to us. . .little did I know Matt ordered it and requested the biggest salad they could possibly make, thanks to Mai you can see for yourself just how big the salad was, and we pretty much devoured it all.

Saturday morning I headed out early for brunch with some friends. We had a good time hanging out and catching up.
Then it was on to my first ever crawfish boil, and no I didn’t pinch any tails or suck any heads. I stay away from those things. . .just not my thing. But it was fun see Decker who was in town from Austin, B-Shaw, Amber and Herlocker. Little did I know that I would also get to see a long lost friend. Well, maybe not so much lost, just someone I hadn’t seen in forever. . .it was a blast.

To round the day off. . .I met Matt & Lacee to watch the Michigan St. – Uconn game. We pretty much decided that that game was going to be the deciding factor on whether Lacee or I won the bracket pool. . .since I had Michigan St. as the winner. . .I won, I think. . .we’ll know for sure tomorrow night. . .this means that I will definitely be throwing a party for all those involved this year!

I pretty much decided to just take it easy today and do some laundry but for some reason thought organizing the garage would be a good idea. . .that was until I found droppings in several places. . .that totally freaked me out and stopped me dead in my tracks. . .I guess I’ll finish tackling that chore another day.

This Week’s Fun Finds

I can’t take credit for this first one, well or the second one. . .but that doesn’t mean they are any less fun!

Did you know that Blackberry has released an app store? Well, neither did I! That is until my friend Joe told me about it. I haven’t really played with it yet but I’m excited to play with it over the weekend. Yet another reason to be addicted to my blackberry. . .it’s a sad, sad thing! Go check out the app store here.

Here’s the other fun find: looks like I might be in the running to win the NCAA brackets I did with my friends. Apparently it all comes down to the first game on Saturday. I’m rooting for Michigan State to beat UConn. Not really sure why I picked Michigan State but I did. So fingers crossed!

BV – Cabernet Sauvignon Costal Estates 2005

I decided to give in and try a BV Cab. . .I’ve always heard that these are fancy wines. . .but I found this one on sale at my local grocery store. So I thought I’d give it a try.

This one really isn’t bad. . .but it wasn’t necessarily amazing. I think I have a skewed view of BV wines though, because they have been overly hyped to me which typically leaves me disappointed.

For the price and the taste this really wasn’t bad wine, but it isn’t necessarily one I would recommend to others. But it isn’t a bad wine to have at a party or keep around the house when you are wanting a bottle of wine.

So you give it a try and let me know. . .cause it definitely will not become a member of my DO NOT TRY list. But don’t have really high expectations for it either.

I will still raise my glass to you with this one. . .don’t worry!
