It took me a little bit to finish this book up. I’m not sure why other than I’ve maybe just not been in a reading mood lately, because I did enjoy the book. These Girls is my first read by Sarah Pekkanen. I kept seeing it pop up on Goodreads and then it was on sale on amazon so I thought, I’ll give it a read.
I thought this would be another light-hearted chicklit novel I would blaze through rather quickly. But I quickly realized I was wrong. Pekkanen goes a bit deeper than most chicklit books traditionally do. These Girls is the story of three girls living in New York City; Cate, Renee and Abby. Cate and Renee are coworkers at a fashion magazine called Gloss and are roommates. These two appear to have everything going for them, but in reality they have both become experts at keeping up a facade. So much so that they don’t even know what the other is struggling with. Abby is the younger sister of the hottie Trey who writes for another magazine in their building that needs a place to stay and neither Cate or Renee can say no to his request.
Each one of These Girls realizes how important it is to have friends. Not just casual friends but friends you can tell your most embarrassing secrets to and know they’ll be there to walk through them with you. While these three girls may not be life long friends they come together at just the right times in their lives to create a strong bond.
I really enjoyed These Girls by Sarah Pekkanen but should warn you this is a story that jumps around from character to character so you’ll need to pay attention.
