On the Open Road with Fossil at SXSW

A few weeks ago when Fossil emailed me an invite to their On the Open Road show at SXSW featuring Foster the People, there was no way I could say no!  It is sad to say, I had never been to SXSW before but had always wanted to go.  Not only could I go to the show but Fossil was nice enough to let me bring a friend.

Bailey on the Open Road

last Thursday, I loaded up Bailey and we hit the road to Austin.  I needed to get down there around lunch time to go and get my wristbands for the show that night.  I figured all around SXSW it would be crazy but I had no idea just how crazy it was.  There was no parking anywhere but since we only needed about 20 minutes to get to the wristband pick up and back we valeted the car for $20 and set out on foot with Bailey in tow.

I was so impressed that not only had Fossil set up their headquarters at the Copper Tank Events center but they made it their own from the outside in.  We grabbed our wrist bands, but not before Bailey tried to steal a few Fossil employees’ lunches.  Sorry about that guys!

Fossil Wristbands

Once we had our wristbands we were ready to be On the Open Road with Fossil at SXSW.  The doors opened around 8:30 and we got there about 9pm.  I loved that the only available liquors to choose from were local to Austin: Deep Eddy and Tito’s Vodka.

Rogue Wave was the opening act, they came out and put on a good show.  Then it was time for Foster the People.  I should probably let you in on a little secret about now, I’m not really a concert person.  Often bands don’t seem to be as good live, it is loud and normally expensive.  But wow, I was impressed by Foster the People.  I really only knew one of their songs going into the concert but the lead singer’s voice was awesome and I left looking forward to the release of their next album.

Foster the People

I know my picture is pretty lame…but I hung toward the back so I could see everything going on and it was so loud I didn’t want to be by the speakers.  That probably makes me sound old!

I had a blast at my first SXSW experience.  Thank you Fossil for letting me head out on the open road with you at SXSW.  Fossil sure knows how to put on an event!

Foster the People‘s new album is available today.
