Someday, Someday Maybe | Lauren Graham

Like most of the people anxiously awaiting the release of Someday, Someday Maybe, I am a huge fan of Lorelai Gilmore…uh, I mean Lauren Graham.  I know Gilmore Girls has been over for years and she’s now on Parenthood, but I will always think of her like this:

Lauren-Graham

I couldn’t wait to read the first book Lauren Graham penned!  It wasn’t long before I began reading it I learned that there is already a TV show in the works based off Someday, Someday Maybe.  As I read the book it seemed almost sitcom-like.  Which makes sense to me as Lauren Graham has spent the last decade plus starring in sitcoms.  I also wondered as I read Someday, Someday Maybe if this was what life was like for Lauren Graham as she was trying to get started in show business.

I didn’t love this book as much as I wanted to.  Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it I had just hoped to fall in love with it because I love Lauren Graham.  I thought it was well written and a fun story it just wasn’t amazing.  I’m really looking forward to seeing it in the TV show format.  I think it will be an interesting show; especially if Graham teams up with Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls.

In Someday, Someday Maybe we are taken back to 1995 when Franny Banks is struggling to become an actress in New York City.  She is rapidly approaching her self-imposed two year deadline to make it as an actress or give up.  She doesn’t have much to show so far with just one commercial under her belt and no agent.  Through all of her struggles, Franny is supported by her two roommates, best friend Jane and a friend’s fiance Dan.  Franny’s story is one of whole-heartedly chasing after a dream with impossible odds while not letting the fear of failure hold her back.

Have you read Someday, Someday Maybe?  What did you think, should Lauren Graham stick to acting or should she keep writing?

  1. I’m a little surprised you weren’t “that into” this book…considering… Thanks for preparing me what I’m in for, it’s on my list to read.

    • I know! There was just something that was a little off that kept me from falling in love with this book. But it was still a good read and I’m sure you will enjoy it! And I do think it’ll make a great TV show.
