A few weeks ago at dinner with a friend, we decided that rather then pay for multiple glasses of wine each that we would just order a bottle. I’m not normally a Chardonnay fan, but when I’m told it isn’t super buttery or oaky then I am down to give it a try. Our waiter recommended a “White Burgundy” for us to try. However when he brought it out the label very clearly said Chardonnay.
After dinner I decided to do a little research and see what was up. Apparently Chardonnays originated in the Burgundy region of France. I looked up this vineyard, Domaine de Montille, and it turns out this is actually a Bourgogne Blanc. Bourgogne Blancs are typically less expensive white Burgundies known for crisp and lively flavors with hints of lemons and apples.
I really enjoyed this “Chardonnay,” more than I expected to. My only disappointment is that I have a feeling I will have a hard time tracking down this wine to try it again, but I’m now on the lookout for it!
