In an unusual post over at Chicklit Is Not Dead, I read a review of The 500 (Matthew Quirk) and couldn’t wait to read it. This is Matthew Quirk’s first novel and it was captivating. The 500 is reminiscent of The Firm but it involves more powerful players.
Michael Ford grew up with a con man for a father who spent the better part of Mike’s coming of age and early adulthood years in prison. After spending a little time behind bars himself, Mike decides to clean up his act and puts himself through undergrad and law school at Harvard. During his time at Harvard he attends a lecture by Henry Davies. Davies offers him a high paying job at his D.C. firm. The offer seems too good to be true but he also can’t say no.
With what seems like little effort, Davies has erased Mike’s muddled past and paid off all of his loans. Life is good for Mike…or so it seems…
For the best synopsis of this book, head over to Matthew Quirk’s website and watch his book trailer, it is done really well!
I found myself not being able to put this book down because I couldn’t wait to find out how all of the details would play out. I’ve also heard that Twentieth Century Fox has bought the movie rights to The 500 and I can’t wait to see it!
Apparently Bailey didn’t mind too much that I could put this book down and used it as an opportunity to snuggle.
Way to go Matthew Quirk on an excellent debut novel!
The 500 is now available in paperbook as well as on the Kindle:
