This is an old family favorite that some how over the last several years we’ve stopped making. Maybe we’ve all been distracted by cupcakes? Cherry Dessert (I know what an original name!) is a simple dessert that is perfect for summer time because it is served cold. I decided to make it for Father’s Day this past weekend and it was a hit!
3/4 C Sugar
1 C Cold Milk
1 8 oz package Cream Cheese
3 C Graham Cracker Crumbs
1 1/2 sticks Butter
2 packages Dream Whip
2 Can Cherry Pie Filling
First melt the butter and mix with the graham cracker crumbs. This will form your crust.Cover the bottom of an ungreased 8×14″ pan with the whole mixture.
Mix Dream Whip and milk. Whip until stiff. Add the sugar and softened cream cheese and mix well. Pour over the graham crackers. I should probably tell you, if you have no idea where to find Dream Whip packets, look on the jello aisle.
At this point I put the dish in the fridge to let the cream cheese mixture set overnight. Because I was serving this the next day for lunch, first the next day I woke up and poured the cherry pie filling on top and put it back into the fridge.
The nice thing about this recipe is that the hardest part is crushing the graham crackers. This does make a rather large dessert but it can easily be cut in half so that it fits your needs.
On a hot summer day this light and cool dessert is a welcomed treat!
