Christmas Eve is my FAVORITE holiday! It is the one holiday tradition that never changes for my family. We never have to stop and think, now what did we do last year? For as long as I can remember we’ve always gotten together with my mom’s sister and her family. When I was younger this also included my mom’s parents who would drive in from Alabama. . .I really meant to dig up some old pictures from Christmases past and scan them into the computer to share. . .but alas, I ran out of time.
My mom’s sister, Aunt Neil, has two boys, Todd and Ryan. They are my cousins I blogged about back on December 9th, because they just opened a bar down in Corpus Christi, TX that is a-mazing! Growing up we all went to the same school and until I was in junior high, we lived less than a mile away from the Pietsches (pronounced peaches, like the fruit). Needless to say we spent a lot of time with Todd and Ryan.
Above is a picture of us cousins at Ryan’s wedding.
I have so many funny memories from our Christmas Eve get togethers that I wouldn’t even know where to start if I wanted to relive the memories. There is one story in particular I will NEVER forget but Uncle Fred has asked us not to bring it up anymore. Although every year at the “kids table” it is still mentioned in hushed tones. . .
Tonight was no different, except that Ryan wasn’t here. Ryan just got married a little over a month ago to Sunny who is an only child which means they headed to west Texas to hangout with Sunny’s parents. Who knows what else might have occurred, had Ryan been present.
I know for me this is the one tradition I never want to change because no matter how much or how little I see the Pietsches I always look forward to Christmas Eve. Really I think we all do. But perhaps next year we may have to relocate Christmas Eve to either Ryan or Todd’s house in Corpus depending on the bar’s schedule. . .and that could be quite an adventure.
What is your Christmas Eve tradition?
