Joe T Garcia’s, while technically not in Dallas, it is one of the few things that draws Dallasites to Ft. Worth. Not that there’s anything wrong with Ft. Worth, it can be a fun day trip from Dallas; we just typically have all of the same things here. In fact the majority of my last few trips to Ft. Worth have involved dinner at Joe T’s. This particular time we went for a birthday on a stormy night. Prior to this trip I had never seen the inside of the restaurant. I love this restaurant because of the giant patio that I would say makes up at least half of the restaurant.
A few things to keep in mind when you venture to Joe T’s, they do not accept credit cards so be sure to take along some cash. If you happen to forget they do have an ATM in the lobby.
Also, they have no menu. They only really offer two items: enchiladas and fajitas. I believe the enchiladas are cheese; along with them you get a couple green chili nachos, beans and rice. With the fajitas you can choose between chicken, beef or a combination. I went with the chicken fajitas, but due to the marinade they use (which I believe involves teriyaki sauce), the chicken and beef look a lot a like. All of the sides for your fajitas: cheese, sour cream, pico de gallo and tortillas are served family style.
Because this was a birthday dinner we had to order the sopapillas, how could we not?
Oh and I forgot the drinks. Since enough of us wanted a margarita, we went with a pitcher. You end up paying for 4 margaritas, but you get between 5 and 6 from the carafe. Definitely the way to go!
In an effort to embarrass I mean make the birthday boy feel special, we got a serenade from the mariachis.
If you’re headed to Ft. Worth be sure to schedule a meal at Joe T Garcia’s. Don’t expect to be blown away by the food, it’s more about the experience. At least in my mind.
