Kandice loaned me Love Monkey | Kyle Smith, just before she left for her week long Steamboat adventure, saying she couldn’t wait to reread this one.
This book is about Tom Farrell, and I can’t help but picture Thomas Cavanagh, who starred in the TV show by the same name a few years back.
The first few pages introduce you to Tom through his own thoughts, which I find to be a hilarious no holds bar run down of his adult life. I kept pick a good one liner to show you just how funny this book is but every time I thought I had stumbled upon a good on it would instantly be replaced by the next line that was even funnier.
He says (or thinks) things like, “I played the field and the field won.” And then instantly he follows it with, “Am I gay? (I wish),” because then he would understand why he never has luck with the women he meets. He is all over the place constantly.
Quirky is the word that continues to pop in my head as I read this book. That just seems to be the best word to describe Tom’s way of thinking. As you read, you quickly learn he is hopelessly in love with Julia. A co-worker he previously “hung out with” for lack of a better term. He talks to her constantly, because imaginary Julia can appear anywhere at any time.
Published in 2004, this book references a wide genre of music that conjures up countless memories for me from both high school and college.
I need to get back to reading so that I can finish this book and give it back to Kandice. Sorry to be a slacker and once again not finished the book quite yet.

haha! so glad you’re enjoying this one… i remember laughing out loud on an airplane while i was reading it! more than once… of course i got a few strange looks because it was 8 o’clock in the morning… but whatever. sometimes offhand, slightly abrasive humor is good for you. 🙂 enjoy! (and give it back asap!) 🙂

When is Kandice coming back to Dallas? Do I have time to read it fast before she does? haha
