Oddfellows Dallas | Bishop Arts | Brunch

Last weekend was Easter and my cousin asked if I wanted to go to brunch on Friday because she’d be in town.  How could I say no?  As we were talking about where we should go, I realized this would be the perfect opportunity to try out a brunch spot that is nearly impossible to hit on the weekends.  We decided to go to Oddfellows Dallas down in the Bishop Arts District.

To be fair, I’ve really only tried to go to Oddfellows once before but it was so crowded I knew it wasn’t a fluke and knew this place had to be good!  I looked up the Oddfellows menu and realized they served breakfast/brunch everyday of the week and we were set.

We got there about 11:15 and while we waited for my sister Beth we went ahead and ordered a mimosa while we looked over the menu.

We knew looking over the menu that it was going to be hard to narrow down the options and decide what to order.  So we ended up ordering quite a bit of the menu to sample as much as possible.  There wasn’t a single thing we ordered that wasn’t good!

We ordered these items to share:

Oddfellows-Smoked-Gouda-Cheese-GritsWe went with just a cup of the Smoked Gouda Cheese Grits because we had so much we wanted to try.  These grits were cheesy yummy goodness that we all enjoyed!

Oddfellows-Buffalo-MacThe Buffalo Mac and Cheese has been voted the best Mac & Cheese in Dallas in 2011 so how could we not try it?  It was definitely a unique spin on Mac & Cheese but it was amazing!

The other “pre meal” items we ordered to share where some street tacos.  My cousin ordered the egg, pancetta and mozzarella taco while I ordered the chorizo minus the egg.

I didn’t try the pancetta taco but the chorizo taco was delicious.  Is it weird we passed these around to share?  As you can see they are a really good size, especially considering they are $3.75 a taco.  Normally most places give you a tiny little taco.

Now on to our “main courses.”  Most of the dishes on the Oddfellows Brunch menu include eggs, so I went for the easy and obvious choice of

Oddfellows-Chicken-and-WafflesThe chicken and waffles at Oddfellows is serious!  This is real fried chicken with the meat still on the bone.  The waffles were crunchy and totally dip-able into the syrup.  I loved that they were not soggy at all.  This dish was delicious.  Though it was the last one to arrive and most likely the plate with the most left on it when we just couldn’t eat any more.

Sis went with the Huevos Rancheros.  She was thinking Migas until the waiter described the Huevos Rancheros (one of his favorite dishes) as Migas with a whole lot more.

Also, shout out to my sis for taking this picture of her food for me!  I obviously didn’t give this dish a try but I heard it was amazing.

My cousin went with the Fried Green Tomato and Bacon Sandwich.

I was a little nervous about this sandwich because I’m not a tomato fan, but apparently I need to stop being afraid of fried green tomatoes because they have never disappointed me.  When the sandwich arrived the sprouts were the big turn off…again not my favorite…but nonetheless, I gave it a try.  This sandwich was delicious!  I loved the way every item in the sandwich complimented each other and really meshed together well.

Last but not least, don’t forget to get some coffee while you are at Oddfellows Dallas, I recommend the latte.

Thanks for getting into town early cuz, so we had an excuse to brunch at Oddfellows Dallas.  Have you made it to Oddfellows down in Bishop Arts? If not, don’t put it off any longer!  You will not be disappointed!
