Tonight was our first show for the 2009 Dallas Summer Musical Series, though this one is an extra musical, not actually a part of the season. It was Rent.
For years I have heard people rave about it but never really understood the hype because I hadn’t seen it. Then when the movie came out in 2005 and I was excited to finally see it. . .and I fell asleep, which never happens to me because I always want to see the ending of the movie. So needless to say I had lost some of my excitement about this musical.
We had the good fortune of getting upgraded seats and got to sit in the rear orchestra with the super comfy reclining chairs. . .it was amazing!
I enjoyed this musical a lot more than I would have guessed, but I was a bit confused. I wish I had read a little bit about the plot or story line so that I didn’t just have to interpret the songs for the story line. I was so excited when Act 2 started, with:
Five hundred, twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes
Five hundred, twenty-five thousand moments so dear. . .
The first three months of this tour two of the original cast members are reprising their roles, which means I got to see Adam Pascal as Roger and Anthony Rapp as Mark. . .so cool.
I’m so glad I got to see it!
