Table for Seven by Whitney Gaskell is the latest book I read for my Wine Down Wednesday Book club and it was everything I love and have come to expect from Whitney Gaskell. Her ability to craft characters that I relate to always impresses me. As I began this book and she was introducing the characters I found myself thinking, “hey I do that!”
Table for Seven is Whitney Gaskell’s eighth book and is about a group of 7 people who gather once a month for a dinner party. There are two couples and 3 singles that come together for dinner. While seven seems like an odd number, as the story progresses the members of the group make sense.
Over the coarse of the year that this group meets quite a lot happens in each of their lives. We see relationships come together and fall apart when you least expect them. Yes parts of Table For Seven are very predictable but I think Whitney Gaskell does a good job of making those situations believable and the characters relatable.
I think my favorite character of this group was Leland. He is a widower, full of wisdom and personality. He seems to ground the group while also keeping them entertained.
Table for Seven is an easy, fun read that you will most likely get through pretty fast. It went over well with all of our book club members and even inspired us to have our own dinner party to discuss the book. Stay tuned for a post about what I served at the dinner party. Thanks Whitney Gaskell for another great read!
