The Time Traveler’s Wife was the first novel by author Audrey Niffenegger, and if you are a fan you’ll be happy to know that Niffenegger just signed a big book deal to write a follow up novel. I’ll admit one of the reasons I first decided to read this book was because I heard it was coming out in the theaters.
I don’t know why I always try to read a book before I see the movie; because I always end up being disappointed by the movie. I have yet to see a movie I like better than the book. For some reason I really thought this movie was coming out in the fall of 2008 but according to IMDB it won’t be out until February 2010. When I heard it was being made into a movie, I found out that Eric Bana would be playing the time traveler, Henry and Rachel McAdams would be playing his wife, Clare.
I really enjoyed this book, although it does require quite a bit of attention. Henry and Clare’s lives cross paths many times. He appears to her when she is little as a 40-something year old man and sometimes as a child himself. Once Clare is older, she is still visited by Henry at all different ages.
Mostly I was impressed with the concept, and the fact that Niffenegger was able to keep the details of her character’s travels straight. Clare progresses through life in a normal manner, while Henry bounces around. In my opinion Clare is a little too comfortable with the fact that Henry time travels and she never really knows which version of Henry could appear next.
They struggle to live a normal life because only a very select few people know about Henry’s talent. Henry is able to maintain a job at the library, while Clare is a stay at home artist. The tricky part about Henry’s time traveling is that he always reappears naked. No problem when he returns to his house, but when he returns to work or a public place can be really awkward.
Have you read it? What did you think?

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! Maybe it’s because I didn’t have high expectations since I picked it up multiple times, looked at it and put it back down since it was about time traveling. But the author did such a good job of not making this story to ridiculous even though it is about time travling – that was really just the means to the love story. Gosh…I loved it!! 🙂

I saw on two peas that you were having trouble with the kite runner and I have a suggestion. Get it on CD. I checked it out at the library and listened to it going to and from work. I was really glad that I “read” it that way. The author narrates it and I found that it was easier to get into because I wasn’t struggling with the language. I also enjoyed the time traveler. (I read that one LOL) Hope this helps
