Mockingbird Taproom

Well, that didn’t last long.  Mockingbird Taproom is *CLOSED* as of July 2013

My friend V and I try to get together at least once a month to catch up; sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn’t.  For our last get together we tried out the new arrival to Mockingbird Station in Dallas: Mockingbird Taproom.  We both love to try new places, so this spot was perfect.

I was the first to arrive so I ordered a Revolver Blood & Honey beer while I waited.  Mockingbird Taproom has some great specials and that particular day it happend to be $3 Texas Beers.  I’d had a sip of this beer before and really liked it so I had an easy time choosing a beer.  The design and feel of the bar were great and there was a pretty good “after work” crowd.  My only complaint is it got way too dark in there.  They barely had the lights one and if you were serious about eating dinner you might not have been able to read the menu to order anything.

Mockingbird-Taproom-Pimento-DipAs a starter I decided to give the Spicy Pimento Dip a try.  A weird choice I know, but I’ve had pimento dip before and was surprised I liked it.  Same thing happend this time around.  It did have a nice spice to it but it wasn’t too spicy.  The tortilla chips have quite a bit of salt on them so if you’re not a fan of salt, don’t say I didn’t warn you.  I liked the presentation of the dip; the little jar it was served in was adorable.

V opted for the Revolver High Brass, she liked it so much I tried it next.  I definitely recommend if you are out somewhere that serves Revolver, give it a try!  They also offer a stout if that’s more your thing.  And they are in Granbury if you’re in the Dallas area and want to make the trip to the Brewery.

I still wanted to try an entree and since Mockingbird Taproom is owned by the same group that owns Park Tavern, I took it as a sign that I HAD to try the Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  Technically it’s called the Foot Long Grilled Cheese and just like the sandwich at Park Tavern, this one came with egg so I had to 86 it.  At Mockingbird Taproom it is served on a baguette but the bread looked much different then the baguette it is served on at Park Tavern.  The bacon was candied and added a nice hint of sweetness.  Now I know why everyone raves about the Grilled Cheese, it really is THAT good!

Mockingbird-Taproom-Grilled-CheeseV decided to just stick with an appetizer and ordered the Big Sticks.  If I remember correctly she said this was the best soft pretzel she’d ever had.  I didn’t try it so I’ll have to take her word for it until I can make it back to Mockingbird Taproom.

Have you been to Mockingbird Taproom, what did you think? If you’re planning to go be sure and check out their specials, you won’t want to miss them!
