This week’s book is The Reader (Bernhard Schlink). It is also a movie starring Kate Winslet that I want to see.
This is a pretty easy read, but a little disturbing I must admit. I find it awkward to read about an intimate relationship between a 15 year old boy and a 30 year old woman. I can’t help but wonder why Hannah was interested in a teenager; to me the teenage boy being obsessed with an older woman isn’t too far of a stretch.
It is interesting to see the progression of an awkward boy to a confident young man. The more time he spends with Hannah the more independent and self confident he becomes at school and with his parents.
Once again I am not quite finished with this book but I am enjoying it and should have it finished shortly. I really want to go see this movie, I keep picturing Kate Winslet as Hannah and I am having a hard time. Plus I always enjoy seeing how mangled a story becomes when it is put on the big screen. Not that the movie is bad, after all it is merely an interpretation.
I am guessing the movie is pretty good since Kate Winslet has already won an award and I believe is up for more nominations. I was like when actors I enjoy watching are awarded for their craft.
