Whiskey Cake | Plano, TX

This wasn’t my first time at Whiskey Cake, and to be honest I never really thought I’d go back.  My first experience was horrible and even with the incentive of a $50 gift certificate my 2nd visit was still not great.  So when my friend Pam said “I’ve hear good things about Whiskey Cake,” I warned her.  But when we ended up making plans for brunch I decided I’d give Whiskey Cake one last try because I keep hearing how great their brunch is.

After a much needed mani/pedi we headed over to Whiskey Cake for our brunch adventure.  This was my first trip to Whiskey Cake that it wasn’t just packed; in fact, we didn’t even have to wait for our table we were seated right away.

If you’ve ever been here before you know the drink list is long and impressive.  I think for every one menu item there are at least 5 drink options, the drink list is that big!

We both wanted the Chicken and Waffles but it seemed like a lot of food for one person, with chicken, waffles and eggs, so we decided to share.  Once we decided that we opted to start with the Pop Overs.  As far as pop overs go these were good, but what really impressed me was the strawberry butter.  That was delicious!

While we were enjoying our pop overs our first round of drinks arrived.  I opted for the St Germain Cocktail, I seem to love anything with St Germain.

It was light and refreshing, not only a perfect brunch cocktail but a perfect summer cocktail.

Now on to the Chicken and Waffles…this waffle had bacon baked into it…I know I’ve had bacon pancakes, but bacon waffles…never would have thought of that.  Then you get to the chicken, apparently they smoke the chicken then they batter it and fry it.  It had a unique flavor thanks to the smoking that made the chicken amazing!  They really ought to think about offering chicken tenders on their menu…hint, hint.

This isn’t actually how the chicken and waffles come, but we had told our server we were sharing it and he had it split for us.  Also, it does come with eggs, but since I’m allergic that was on it’s own plate as well so Pam could have them.

Our brunch waiter was my favorite waiter I’ve had there so far.  He was on top of things, going above and beyond like this, splitting the meal and made excellent suggestions along the way.

Pam and I were both glad that we decided to split the chicken and waffles because it left room for us to have dessert.  But first we ordered another round of cocktails.  This time I went for the Bubbles and Berries.  It was good but I definitely enjoyed the St Germain Cocktail more.

We took our time with our second cocktail and let our food digest so that we could try the Whiskey Cake.  In my previous visits and I had been so frustrated by my experience that I never lasted long enough for dessert.  Though this time around I appreciated that our waiter didn’t hurry us a long, he just let us hang out and chat and enjoy ourselves.  When our drinks were just about finished we ordered the Whiskey Cake (minus the nuts) and a cup of coffee each.

This cake was amazing.  It was rich but it wasn’t too sweet, if that makes sense.

The whipped cream is made in house and they bring it on the side.  Whatever that sauce the cake sits in it is like a little bit of heaven.

Apparently the third time was the charm for Whiskey Cake.  Needless to say brunch won me over… though I’m still not sure I’d try and go for dinner again, but I’d definitely be up for a trip back for brunch.
